Dosage Guide

Dogs: 2 mg/kg PO once daily for up to 5 days, or 1 mg/kg SC once daily. Cats: 1 mg/kg SC once daily for up to 5 days (extra-label oral use at 2 mg/kg).

Side Effects

  • Mild sedation
  • Drooling (especially in cats with oral administration)
  • Decreased appetite (rare)
  • Pain at injection site (SC administration)

Important Warnings

  • !Use with caution in dogs with hepatic dysfunction
  • !Safety in pregnant or lactating animals not fully established
  • !Do not use in dogs under 8 weeks of age
  • !Can mask underlying GI obstruction — always rule out foreign body

Contraindications

Do not use this medication in the following situations:

  • Known hypersensitivity to maropitant
  • GI obstruction not yet ruled out
